Happy belated 4th of July. To celebrate our independence observe this list of bizarre laws from different states regarding sex practices. These had me rolling, though I cannot speak for their accuracy.

My Dad and I saw Wall-E on Friday. Can't recommend it enough on many levels. Pixar's takes on dystopian sci-fi in a cute and romantic way. 4 1/2 out of 5 stars.

Jess and I compiled a playlist on Youtube of movie scenes where people break out into song. No musicals are included in the list with the exception of Moulin Rouge (that was Jess's idea). Got idea of scenes to add? Comment!

You wake up. The room is spinning very gently round your head. Or at
least it would be if you could see it which you can't.

It is pitch black.

Woke up in an insomniac haze. Thought I'd post this before I forgot...

Conversation from yesterday:

Me:You're a pink pixie!

Juliet: No I'm not! I'm a monkey!

Me: Given the choice I'd probably choose pixie

Jessica: Monkey would be more accurate.

Juliet: I'M A PINKEY!

Me: I'm a monkey!

Juliet: You're not a monkey, you're a tickle-monster.

I have been microwaving my body on a daily basis. No really!

I've been using our laptop more often lately. As I have done so, I have noticed that what ever parts of my body are close to it after a while start to tingle and heat up uncomfortably and sometimes even suffer searing pain. (I have stopped putting it on my lap for this reason) So I started researching what might be causing the sensation. After all, a lot of people have laptops and don't have this problem.

The answer in short: radiation from the wireless device.

I was shocked to see that I was far from being the only one reporting this EXACT same phenomenon. I was enlightened to find that the problem most likely results from my wireless connection. My particular wireless device is operates under the 802.11g standard. Similiar to the 802.11b standard, they both work at a 2.4 Ghz frequency. These standards are known to encounter interference when you operate a microwave nearby. Want to know why? Because that's the same frequency of radiation coming from your microwave. Yup, my hands legs and groin have been getting microwaved by my laptop.

Microwave ovens cook food because that specific frequency is absorbed by water, fats, and sugars. It excites the water and fat molecules charging them with energy. Human beings contain a lot of water. So now I'm just hoping this hasn't made me sterile or primed me to become a walking tumor farm. Happy computing y'all!

02:54 pm - I love my schedule

I work 10 hour days four times a week. My schedule is 7am-6pm with an hour lunch. Now you might be the type of person who (like many have) would say, "I could never." But I gotta say that now that I'm used to it, I think it's the greatest thing ever. Here's why:

I mean yeah, sure there's the trade off of having longer work days, but that extra day of not having to do anything work-related really gives me peace of mind.
Besides having a two day weekend, my third day off is positioned on Wednesday. This means I never work more than two days at a time. So on Mondays I never have to look at my weekly schedule and grumble about 5 days in a row of grinding away at work. I basically work two mini-weeks within each work-week.
You may get 8 hours off during holidays. I get 10! Plus if I add a vacation day before or after it, I get a 5 day weekend. This is not so great though when put in the context of sick time. Whereas you may have only been sick for 8 hours of work, I have been for 10.
On the other hand this can sometimes feel like a con rather than a pro. It makes time really slip away. The month is over before I know it.
6:30 am is early enough to not have to deal with really bad traffic on 270, and 6:00pm is late enough where the worst is usually over given fair weather.
I save about 2 gallons of gas a week. Better for the environment and my wallet!

There is one con not already mentioned and that's overtime. After a 10 hour day I really don't want to work any more. And after being spoiled so much by my third day off, I really don't want to sacrifice any of it to get a few extra hours in.

But there you have it. I love it. If I were king America would switch to 4-day weeks.

That last post just got me thinking. If I had high school to do all over again, I'd talk all my friends into starting a band. Even if it was the crappiest sounding band imaginable, it would have been worth doing.

10:50 am - Don't believe them!

Three weeks ago AT&T salesman knocked on the door and my wife answered. They offered her digital phone, cable, and "Express" internet for $65 a month. When she asked about the speed of the internet, they assured her it was faster than what she has now. She did inform them that we have Roadrunner. She took them up on the deal.

So today, an installation tech starts to work and he and I have a conversation about the internet. He replies frankly "We're not as fast as Roadrunner." When asked what the kbps is he says it's around 1500kbps. I do a quick speed test from my computer and our Roadrunner kbps is between 6800 and 7100 kbps.

Yes folks, no matter what those annoying door salesman say, their "Express" is one quarter the speed of Roadrunner. If you want service that comes close to Roadrunner, you have to upgrade two levels up to their "Elite" service which is still only 6000kbps. I sent the tech packing and apologized for wasting his time. He said they've had to have "meetings" with the salespeople about this sort of thing. Small wonder that.

02:40 am

So during my break at work today, I was scanning the news and mentioned the latest political headline to coworkers regarding the Democratic Party's presidential race. The essence of the headline being that Hillary Clinton refuses to drop out of the race despite pressure to do so because she believes "I have a much broader base to build a winning coalition on."

I won't disagree that this is a veiled way of claiming, "White people like me more because I'm white." You can spin it any way you want to but if you read the full articles under the headlines that certainly seems to be the point she's trying to make.

So I bring this up to my coworkers and how to me, this appears to be a divisive and unhealthy approach to a candidacy. I was shocked at the response I got from my coworker, a Hillary supporter. Let's call my coworker Dave. He says, "Well I hate to say this but this contest is really all about race." Then the girl sitting next to him says "It is!"

I won't be shy about it, I voted for Obama during the Ohio primary. Despite the media's attempt to sensationalize about Obama's racial background, I have never followed that hype in my support of him. First I look at the competition:

I don't see McCain as being much more than another lap dog for the neo-conservative shadow-presidency. His foreign policies don't appear to be any kind of improvement on the current idiot in office and his back-peddaling on statements he's made about Iraq and Iran seem like nothing more than an apology for being too honest about bad policy. This is way too close for comfort when I think about the attributes of our current president who over the last two terms has become indignant about his atrocious policies.

As for Hillary, I don't trust her any further than I can throw her. After spending the past year or so studying multitudes of news items featuring buzz clips from Clinton, I realize that she will truly sacrifice her integrity and lie to the masses using the philosophy that most of them won't pay close enough attention to the truth for it to be consequential. She makes outlandish claims to garner support, which reek of pandering. She seems to feel no shame in accepting a great deal of funding from special interest groups. Finally when you factor in her offensive political tactics to divide voters about Obama, she proves to be the consummate greasy politician. If she were to take office, I wouldn't feel any greater security in what she promises to the people than I do now in our current administration.

Switch to Obama. He is a career politician just like Hillary, and as such is not immune to the potential for insincerity either. He has been criticized for being nothing more than a gifted speaker. But consider that he has made a pioneering effort in government transparency. He has said he would post all non-emergency bills online for five days before he signed them into law, allowing Americans a chance to weigh in on the legislation. In addition, he said he would post all meetings between lobbyists and government agencies online. Thanks to Obama we now have the Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act of 2006 which allows the public to track government spending. He truly represents himself as a man who seeks to obliterate Washington's shadowy tendency to sneak things past the masses. He refuses to accept campaign funding from special interest groups. To me this means that his presidency won't be compromised by corporate America. He's been accused of not having enough experience. To me you can say anything you want about his experience. Yet his candor, thoughtfulness, and his far-reaching influence among voters and other politicians speak volumes about his potential to be a great leader.

So for me, no it's not about race. It's about who I trust the most. So I have to wonder, do those in the Hillary camp commonly share this perception that those voting for Obama are only doing it because they are struck by the prospect of an African American in the Whitehouse? I suppose I can't speak for the masses in the Obama camp but I'm willing to bet that a good share of us can safely say that's not the case.

Beautifully disturbing or disturbingly beautiful? You decide.

It's "Shadow Puppets" an animated short by Chuck Gamble that was made at least 10 years ago. I did a quick search for it on youtube and lo and...

I just want to say on the record that

Hulu freaking ROCKS!

For those unfamiliar, it allows you to watch free full-length feature films and tv shows with a minuscule amount of commercial interruption. They've struck deals with multiple networks and studios.

I just watched Titan AE for the first time and the quality was surprisingly good for a web based movie. My wife has been watching the cult series American Gothic which died a long time ago.

I'm particularly excited about some of the old B-movies they have to choose from. Particularly Empire of the Ants. Sounds promising for a slap-happy Saturday night.
